Medical Interpreter Training Program in Boston

developed by Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation

and administered by Language Connections LLC.

(Lead Trainer: Inna Persits, M.S., M.Ed.)  


Medical Interpreter Training Certificate Program is a 60-hour 7-week training course that was developed to enable participants to become competent medical interpreters. The course introduces participants to interpreter roles and skills, interpreter ethics, and medical terminology in both English and the target language. 

Anatomy and physiology is taught by an experienced instructor who is a clinician. Language coaching and role-plays in the target language are offered by experienced medical interpreters who are native speakers of the target language. 

Registration for May 2013 course is closed.

The next course will start in the first week of September 2013. The registration for September course will be open on July 1st 2013.

 

Total cost of the program:  $880 ($50 registration fee plus $830 course fee)

Schedule:

The course meets twice a week:
Wednesdays (6.30 pm – 9.30 pm) and 
Saturdays (9.00 am – 4.30 pm).

Languages:

The  Medical Interpreter Training course
is offered in:
Arabic,
Portuguese,
Russian,
Spanish,
Haitian Creole,
Chinese/Mandarin,  
Chinese/Cantonese.

Not every language is offered at a specific session. We require a minimum of five participants in a language group in order to offer the course in that language. 

Who Should Attend Medical Interpreter Training Course:
Bilingual individuals interested in becoming medical interpretersNo medical or previous interpreting background required.
  
How to Register:
  
1) Pre-register online to reserve a seat in the course
2) Complete and mail the signed Application Form with a check or a money order for $50 (non-refundable registration fee) to our office address below (please make checks payable to "Language Connections LLC"): 

Please mail your registration before the deadline to reserve a slot in the course. 
Since space in the training program is limited and is filling up quickly,  we recommend early registration. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the course is full.

PLEASE NOTE: Your registration is not valid without the $50 registration fee.

In order to be considered for admission you must: 
1) Be bilingual in English and another language. 
2) Pre-register online to reserve a seat in the course
3) Send in your Application and your Registration Fee
4) Pass the Language Assessment Pre-Test

Pre-Test: 
To be accepted into the program, applicants must pass an Oral Language Assessment Pre-Test
and demonstrate fluency and literacy skills in English and the target language.

Course fee:
If accepted, participants are required to submit a $830.00 course fee and signed Student Participation Agreement prior to the first class. You can pay with a check, credit card or cash.

Entrance Criteria: 
Training participants must meet all of the following pre-requisites in order to participate in the training program: 
High school diploma or equivalency; 
Oral proficiency in English and the target language (to be determined during screening interview); 
Ability to read and write at advanced level in target language; 
Successful completion of language assessment test;
